Destito, other representatives make visits to push governor's Tax-Free NY initiative
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Governor Andrew Cuomo is trying to reverse New York State’s reputation as the “tax capital” of the nation by offering a new initiative, “Tax-Free New York."
The governor wants allow new businesses that locate on or near a public college campus to operate tax-free for ten years.
“It takes the disadvantages of a high tax community being able to really attract the type of tech business that you need to attract. Low tax areas, to live in. This takes that factor and detriment away from our state and communities,” says Office of General Services Commissioner Roann Destito.
Destito, other cabinet members and the governor himself are traveling the state, talking about the governor’s proposed initiative.
Destito visited SUNYIT in Marcy on Thursday to tout the plan.
You can visit the governor's Tax-Free New York website, which has more details, including eligibility requirements for businesses.
