LITTLE FALLS, NY (WKTV) - Admission to the Diamond Dawgs baseball game Thursday night in Little Falls was free, but there was a catch.
Every where you looked at Veterans Stadium in Little Falls, from the diamond to the stands, you could see a sea of pink. Thursday night was the breast cancer awareness pink game, and those who wore pink got free admission to the game.
Baseball in Little Falls is a true American past time, that dates back to the Little Falls Mets. The 1986 New York Mets won the World Series, with the help of many players who started their careers in Little Falls.
The focus at Thursday night's game, the future and not the past. At stake more than the opposing team from Cooperstown, the future health of both men and women.
Bassett Healthcare was on hand with their mammogram traveling screening center, to give free mammograms to those who qualify.
Players donned pink jerseys, bats, and wristbands. 24 jerseys were autographed by players and sold, with all of the profits going towards the Susan G Komen Fund for brest cancer research.
The pink game is particularly meaningful for Cherrie Fox, a host mom to two baseball players. Cherrie threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the pink game, because she is a breast cancer survivor.
"My grandmother died of breast cancer, my mom died of cancer so its really an emotional thing for me," said Fox.
"Its just really special because I'm here to talk about it, you know, and I had a little boy who was two and he needed his mom (when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer) and I'm here and I'm a survivor and I'm proud of it," said Fox.
