Dolgeville teen works with police to show peers the dangers of texting while driving

DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - One local teenager is teaming up with Dolgeville Police to give students a first-hand look into the dangers of texting while driving.

In pursuit of her Girl Scout Gold Award, Julia Jaikin organized a project in which students drive while texting on a closed course. At the same time, balls are thrown at the cars to represent children running in the road.

"I know my friends text. They text with me in the car, if I am texting them while they are responding," Jaikin said. "It's just something that needs to be addressed and not anything to mess around about."

Jaikin also spoke to students about how hitting someone, with your car, can result in a manslaughter charge
