Dozens of firearms seized at Madison County residence, two charged

KIRKVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Five handguns and more than 60 other assorted firearms were seized by authorities at a residence in Madison County, and two people are facing charges as a result.

According to New York State Police, search warrants were executed at a Black Creek Road address in Kirkville on Wednesday, October 17. At the residence, authorities seized five handguns, more than 60 other assorted rifles, shotguns, and black powder rifles, and a large cache of ammunition.

Edward L. Atkins Jr., 55, of Kirkville was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for possessing five or more firearms, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for possessing a rifle and having previously been convicted of a felony or serious offense. He was processed at the Sullivan State Police Station, arraigned before the Town of Sullivan Court, and remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bail bond.

Dawn M. Moyer, 39, of Mattydale was also arrested and charged with second-degree hindering prosecution for removing evidence from the Black Creek Road residence. She was processed and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Sullivan Court on October 23, 2012, at 4:30 p.m.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
