Early Childhood Symposium held at BOCES in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some area teachers were in school Friday not to teach, but to learn.

The teachers played the role of student at the Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES facility in New Hartford on Friday, where several hundred of they, along with administrators, took part in a free "Early Childhood Symposium."

It provides participants with up-to-date information on teaching strategies and an overview of state regulations for both pre-school and pre-kindergarten.

"There are definitely different levels, and especially for early childhood, we never know what level they're coming in at, because usually it's their first structural setting," said Colleen Wuest, BOCES Early Childhood Assistant Director. "So because of that, it probably takes the educators a good couple of months for what level they're at and then be able to differentiate instruction for them."

The symposium runs until 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
