El Chico's Bar and Grill has new owner, expected to open after Thanksgiving

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - El Chico's Bar and Grill was established in the 1940's next to the historic train station on Martin Street in the city of Rome. In December, a new owner has plans to re-open the eatery with some old favorites, and some new ideas.

John Lawson started the purchase of the building back in February of 2013. He said the deal was finally closed on last month.

He bought the eatery from the estate of the Uvanni family, who ran the restaurant during it's glory days for more than fifty years.

He says while he'll bring in a new flare, like three microbrews on tap at any given time, he'll keep the old menu intact with some favorite dishes like the M & M Sandwich, a cube steak sandwich with mozzarella and. He'll also serve classic favorites like greens and burgers.

El Chico's is located at 6611 Martin Street in Rome.
