Holiday spirit comes alive for Christmas on Main Street

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With Christmas around the corner, a local group called the El-Funs is preparing and putting the finishing touches on Historic Baggs Square in downtown Utica for Christmas on Main Street.

The crew hoisted up and assembled a few decorations Wednesday.

This year, a manger is just one of the displays among the holiday decor.

Santa will be on hand to listen to the wishes of young children.

The Oneida County Farmer's Market and Craft fair will be operating.

There will be free wagon rides from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Organizers say this event has been going on for almost 30 years, but they think this year will be bigger than ever.

" It's the official kick-off to Christmas season right now," Gene Allen said. "We have generations of people coming to this...especially in the Mohawk Valley and Utica to come to Christmas on Main Street."

The event starts at 11 a.m. on Nov. 23.

Santa Claus will arrive that day at noon.

Fireworks will conclude the event at dusk.
