Route 12 back open after fuel truck accident; driver allegedly fell asleep

BARNEVELD, N.Y. (WKTV) -Route 12 in Barneveld is back open following a fuel truck accident Tuesday afternoon.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Deputy Craig Stockhauser, the accident occurred on Route 12 in Barneveld Tuesday August 3, 2010 at 2:27 PM.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, a Remsen City Fuel truck driven by Nicholas D. Kelly 21, of Woodgate, was traveling north on Route 12 when he fell asleep.
The fuel truck veered off the right shoulder of the highway, striking a guide rail, up a large embankment and rolled over coming to rest back on the highway.
Kelly was partially ejected from the vehicle and passerby's stopped and assisted in removing him from the vehicle. Kelly was sent to St. Elizabeth Medical Center by Prospect Ambulance where he is being examined and treated for a fractured back, broken jaw and a possible broken shoulder.
Kelly also suffered several lacerations in the accident.
Only a small portion of the fuel was spilled from the truck and was quickly contained by Barneveld and Remsen Fire Departments.
Route 12 was closed to traffic between Route 365 and Mappa Ave at the Village of Barneveld for several hours during the clean up and is now back open for travel.
The Sheriff's Office was also assisted at the scene by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation the New York State Police and New York State Department of Transportation.
The accident is still under investigation.
