Extended school days for Utica schools on hold until next school year

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The extended school day for some Utica schools will have to wait until 2015.

School Superintendent Bruce Karam said there's no way to put the extended school day in place this year, when they just learned about the grant to do it a few weeks ago.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has allowed an extension for the district. The extended school day will now be put in place at both middle schools and three elementary schools for the 2015-16 school year.

Parents will have their say in exactly how the extended day should look. Karam said there will be a series of town hall-type meetings this fall.

Dates have not yet been announced for the meetings.
