(WKTV) - Two local families are in New York City, where they will finalize the adoption of their children Thursday on national television as part of adoption month.

The families stopped for a quick photo opportunity on the North Utica Thruway exit, along with local Family Court Judge Randal Caldwell, who is accompanying them to their "Today Show" appearance.

Jessica and Christina are adopting 2-year-old Nicholas, who has been with them since he was 5 weeks old.  Tracy Latty is adopting her 9-year-old nephew, Gregory, who is very happy to be going to New York City to be adopted by his "Auntie."
"I think it's cool, because every time I would usually get upset and mad like that, Auntie would probably come and help me, Gregory said. "Every time I have a problem, Auntie would come and solve it."

He has been with his aunt since he was a year and a half old.  Latty says she's blessed to be making it official, becoming the legal parent of her beloved nephew.

The families' adoptions will be finalized on "Today" some time between 7 and 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
