Fans brave the rain on day one of the Turning Stone Resort Championship

VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - Despite a line of showers and thunderstorms that moved through the area Thursday morning, fans came out in force to see the stars of the golf world compete in the Turning Stone Resort Championship.

However, despite a rain delay, the weather changed significantly with the sun finally peeking out from behind the clouds. Even with the rain, that didn't stop the die-hard fans one bit. People have come from as far away as England to watch this year's event. Everyone had their raincoats and umbrellas handy.

Many people say they'd rather have the heat than the weather that hit the championship in 2009. Last year, believe it or not, there was snow!

The Turning Stone Resort Championship continues through Sunday.
