Fans play hooky to watch 'Cuse in NCAA Tourney

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Many local fans caught a sudden case of the "common 'Cuse" today, yet somehow managed to get out to watch the Orange take on Western Michigan, Thursday.

Even though it was a Thursday afternoon, people flocked to the Celtic Harp on Varick St., decked out in Syracuse apparel, to watch the Orange open their Tournament in the Round of 64.

Most weren't too thrilled to see our cameras as they tried to avoid being caught red handed on their supposed "sick day."

March Madness not only brings out the best of college basketball - but also brings locals together to cheer their favorite team to a deep run.

"I think it's a plus," said 'Cuse fan, and Harp employee, Tim Starsiak. "I mean a lot of people have negative things to say about the community, but there's good people everywhere, and they want to come out, they want to be entertained and we're happy to do it"

Those fans left the harp very happy as Syracuse defeated Western Michigan to advance to the next round, by a final score of 77 to 53.
