Farm Fest gives families an inside look into local farm production

By WKTV News

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Oneida County farmers came together Friday for the 2012 Farm Fest.

The annual event invited families out to Verona's Brabant Farms to give families a first-hand look into how their beef, honey, milk and more is produced all with hard work.

"It used to be that everybody had a father or grandfather or something like that, somebody in their family that was a farmer," says farmer Pat Vanlieshout. "Now there's so few people that have that connection anymore directly to a farm, so we said well it's time we start inviting them out to the farm."

Food, hayrides and a petting zoo went along with tours of the working farm. There was also live music from The Nancy Kenyon band.

Vanlieshout says over 1,000 Oneida County Elementary students visited the Farm Fest during the day.
