Federal lawmakers taking action to protect the local work force

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A proposal to change operations at DFAS in Rome has prompted three Federal lawmakers to take action towards protecting the local work force.

Senators Chuck Schumer, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Richard Hanna wrote a letter to the Secretary of the U.S. Army requesting an explanation of the proposals that may impact the facility.

The officials not only dislike the potential proposal to reduce or transfer jobs, but they also are against the lack of transparency present throughout this process.

"The DFAS site in Rome is one of the nation's most productive and efficient, and is crucial to the Mohawk Valley economy," said Senator Schumer. "Any thought to move it is seriously misguided.

"Together with Senator Gillibrand and Representative Hanna, I will fight to nip in the bud any proposal to close of shrink DFAS."
