UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local high school students who are gearing up and getting ready to apply to colleges got financial aid tips Thursday night, at a financial aid event held at MVCC.
The event's purpose was to inform and educate students and their families about their financial aid options and how to apply. Those who attended were able to talk to financial aid officers from area colleges like SUNY Oneonta.
There was a presentation about the process and students could fill out their application for federal student aid (FASFA) applications with a financial aid officer by their side.
Lisa Simpson, The Director of School Relations under the New York Higher Education Services Corporation said the time to apply for FASFA is between the end of January through February, " It's important because financial aid is a large component and financing your education is a real challenge for families," Simpson said, "We want to make them aware what's out there and available and provide them with assistance in the process because it can be difficult the first time you try it."

The event was hosted by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and representatives from the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC.)
