Fire Department to track and Monitor elevator inspections following bad audit

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - We first told you Tuesday that the New York State Comptroller's Office found that the City of Utica was among five cities not adequately monitoring elevator inspections in the city.

That 25 percent compliance rate prompted city Codes Commissioner Robert Palmieri to call a meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning at city hall.
Palmieri met with fire officials and they decided that although it is a codes issue, the fire department will monitor and track the inspections, because fire marshal ray beck as a plan in place to do so.

The city will also look at how other areas such as Buffalo and Elmira monitor inspections and draft similar legislation allowing the fire department to be the monitoring agency.
