Police: Fire on Grant Street intentionally set

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Police say that Sunday morning's fire on Grant Street was intentionally set and they have charged a resident with arson.

On Saturday morning around 4:30 a.m., the Utica Fire Department responded to 15 Grant Street for a fire. Once on scene, they found a fire inside a fire pit in the front yard and the fire was distinguished without incident.

At 6:40 a.m., another fire was reported at 15 Grant Street. This time, when crews arrived on scene, they found the house on fire.

The Utica Fire Department has determined that the front porch was intentionally set on fire.
According to Utica Police, Joann Calicchia, 44, started the 4:30 a.m. fire in the fire pit by igniting her husband’s clothes on fire. Police say that at 6:40 a.m., she lit the front porch on fire while the house was occupied by the first floor tenants, which included three adults and four children.
