Child taken to hospital following East Utica apartment fire

By ANDREW DONOVAN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Fire crews responded to the scene of an apartment fire at 1600 Armory Drive and Adrean Terrace in the City of Utica.

Crews responded around 5:00 p.m. to find heavy smoke in the area and immediately requested a second alarm. The fire was declared under control just before 6:00 p.m.

NEWSChannel 2 spoke with Assistant Fire Chief George Clark who said one child was taken to the hospital. Neighbors in the area say it was a girl. There are no details on the extent of her injuries. She had to be reached by a ladder because she was on the second floor.

The fire was contained within apartment units #62-64. Ten people lived in one of the affected apartment units, according to Clark. The family did not speak English, so an interpreter was on the scene.

The address is listed as Municipal Housing Authority of Utica - ND Peters Manor.
