Fire destroys Town of Marshall highway garage

By ANDREW DONOVAN

MARSHALL, N.Y. (WKTV) - Several fire agencies are on the scene of fully-involved blaze at the Town of Marshall highway garage. As of late Sunday morning, the building was fully engulfed in flames.

The highway garage is at 2700 State Route 315, with a mailing address of Deansboro.

The fire broke out just before 11:00 a.m.

Nine fire departments from Oneida and Madison Counties responded to the scene including from Deansboro, Oriskany Falls, Waterville, Vernon Center, Clinton, Westmoreland and Paris Hill. Other departments were called in to cover the responding departments' fire districts.

Because of the lack of water hydrant access in the area, water had to be pumped from the Oriskany Creek. It took 1,500 feet of hose and two pumpers to make that happen.

The roof caved in and witnesses said they heard several explosions coming from inside the garage. The structure was completely destroyed

There is no word on if there were any injuries or how much might have been destroyed inside the garage. Highway department facilities usually house snow plows, tractors, trucks and supplies among many other types of equipment.
