Firefighters take part in live burn training

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some 30 local recruits are now well on their way to becoming full-fledged firefighters.

Monday was the conclusion of Utica Fire Academy's 14-week training program.

Men and women from 15 fire districts around the state are getting hands on experience extinguishing fires at the training grounds in utica.

Deputy Chief Michael Wusik said, " It shows us that they are ready to go. that they are not afraid of going in and doing what they have to do."

The 30 recruits will officially become firefighters at a graduation ceremony Wednesday at MVCC.
