First Friday of Lent means plenty of prep for fish fry

By WKTV News

DEERFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - February 24 is the first Friday of Lent, which means Friday Fish Fry time.

Volunteers were getting ready for the crowd at the Deerfield Fire House early Friday afternoon, getting their menu of fried and baked fish, scallops, clam strips and shrimp dinners for the line of customers that would form that evening.

The department's been making the fish fries for decades and not only is it a fundraiser for the department's expenses, but they also help out other organizations in Deerfield.

"We return the support in the community," Fire Department Vice President Andy Frank said. "A lot youth baseball teams, youth athletic teams and Pop Warner football. We have a very active boy scout troop and cub scout troop in Deerfield. We help them out and they help us out in return."

The fish fries are available every Friday through April 6, at the Memorial Hall behind the fire department.
