(WKTV) - In the span of nine hours, wind ripped through the Mohawk Valley, rains caused flooding, and sleet caused slippery roads.
In the early morning hours on Wednesday, some 12,000 people in Central New York were without power, several thousand of them in northern Herkimer County.
Temperatures were as high as 56 degrees.
By the end of the day on Wednesday, the same people cleaning up wind damage earlier in the day were later de-icing vehicles.
During the Noon hour, so much rain had fallen that flooding could be seen across much of the City of Utica. In front of St. Elizabeth Medical Center in the City of Utica, cars were struggling to get through intersections.
Cars were also slowed near a small bridge on Route 5 in Schuyler.
By mid-afternoon, the temperatures dropped even more, turning the rain into sleet. The roadways quickly became covered. Traffic throughout much of downtown Utica late Wednesday was slowed to a crawl.
According to Herkimer County 911, a portion of Route 5 was shut down because of a mudslide. No injuries were reported at that portion of the roadway which back in 2007 was closed due to a mudslide as well. In 2007 it took days before it was back open for traffic.
Route 5 between the Little Falls line and Gun Club Road was back open by Wednesday evening.
