COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (WKTV) - January 29th is a special day in Baseball history. It was on this day in 1936 that the Baseball Writers of America elected the inaugural class for the newly former National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson and Walter Johnson made up the Class of 1936. However, it wasn't until 1939 that the first fab five were inducted. The first Induction Weekend took place in Cooperstown in 1939 and included the 1936, 37, 38 and 39 classes.
