FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The annual Central New York Youth Fishing Educators Fishing Derby was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Camp Sitrin in Frankfort, Sunday.
Kids 15 & under were invited to learn how to fish, while having fun doing it.
The derby takes place in memory of Dr. John Millett, who was Chairman of the Kiwanis 'Take a Kid Fishing Day' at Graffenburg Reservoir from 1984 to 1996.
Miller was active in the community, helping children experience success in positive ways.
"He was a very dedicated guy, did a lot for youth," said Bill Gavin, co-coordinator of the event. "Not only youth, but fishing derbies, he started doing this with also Utica College.
"Just a tremendous person in the community."

To help maintain the high quality of the fishery, the derby was a catch and release program, no one was allowed to keep any caught fish.
