Six people taken to the hospital after crash in Verona

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Six people are being treated following a two vehicle accident that took place in Verona on Saturday night. It happened around 7:30 P.M. on Route 365 near the entrance to the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

State Police say Amanda Trepasso, 28, of Syracuse, was driving her 2000 Honda Civic in the eastbound lanes of 365 when she attempted to make a u-turn into the westbound lanes.

Officials say Trepasso failed to yield to the right of way of a 2002 Ford Expedition driven by Gene Carey, 22, of Rome who was driving in the passing westbound lane.

Carey's vehicle struck Trepasso's car forcing it off the side of the road and into a fence. A 28 year old female passenger in Trepasso's car was trapped inside. The jaws of life were used by the Verona Fire Department to remove her from the vehicle. She was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center but then taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for serious head and internal injuries. Trepasso was also taken to Upstate Medical Center where she was being treated for neck and back pain.

Carey and his three passengers were taken to Oneida Healthcare in Oneida for evaluation.

State Police are investigating and told NEWSChannel 2 there were no updates to report Sunday.
