Flag at Faxton St. Luke's raised in honor of organ donor

(WKTV) - There are 10,000 people waiting for life-saving organ donations in the state of New York.

Across the country, about 20 people die every day because they didn't receive an organ transplant they needed. On Monday, a flag was raised at Faxton St. Luke's in honor of Kathleen Warzala, an organ donor who helped bring those numbers down.

Kathleen's parents helped raise the flag in her memory and in celebration of the life she gave to others.

"Kathy saved three people directly via organ donation," said Andrew Sigond, a senior hospital services specialist. "She's enhanced the lives of over 50 people through tissue donation and she's given sight to additional people through the gift of corneas."

April is Donate Life Month, which encourages Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.
