ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - As Oneida County inches toward the 1,000 mark for confirmed flu cases, a breakdown of the numbers of those afflicted shows that the youngest and oldest among us are most vulnerable.
The latest number of confirmed cases in Oneida County this season: 806. Of those, 725 are type "A", which is included in this season's vaccine.
The largest age group of sufferers is children. There are 133 sufferers ages 1-4. Ages 5-9, 110.
The numbers spike again in the 60+ age group, which has 96 sufferers.
County Health Departments say frequent, thorough hand washing and the vaccine are the best bets to beat the flu.
Breakdown of Age Groups Afflicted:
- Under age 1: 43
- Age 1-4: 133
- Age 5-9: 110
- Age 10-14: 41
- Age 15-19: 38
- Age 20-29: 78
- Age 30-39: 75
- Age 40-49: 49
- Age 50-59: 38
- Age 60+: 96

One week ago, Herkimer County had 21 cases but has since increased to 69 confirmed flu cases.
Otsego County has gone from 2 cases last week to 5 cases.
