Forestport Fire Officials continue to investigate weekend fires

FORESTPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Forestport Fire Department is continuing their investigations into two separate fires Saturday night.

Sunday, Fire Chief Chuck Stevens told NEWSChannel 2 that the fire on Woodhull Road started in the kitchen of the home. He said a woman and her children were at home at the time, and that the mom was heading towards the kitchen, heard a pop and saw flames.

All residents made it out safely, including two dogs. The family is being helped out by the Red Cross.

The house sustained heavy damage. The exact cause is still under investigation.

Simultaneously, a brush fire broke out on Kincaid Road. To battle both fires, crews from several departments were called to help.

Chief Stevens said the brush fire may have been caused by an illegal burn.
