Former Edmeston Town Clerk charged with grand larceny

EDMESTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former Town of Edmeston Town Clerk has been charged with grand larceny, accused of stealing almost $3,000 from the town's coffers.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, they received a complaint form the Town of Edmeston attorney last may after the New York State Comptroller's Office had completed an audit of the Clerk's Office. Authorities say that Janet Lynn Fallon, one-time clerk for the county who moved to southern Virginia last year is accused of stealing $2,744 from the town between January 2008 and December 2009.

Investigators from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, along with the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, had both previously interviewed Fallon regarding the missing money and a warrant was issued for her arrest. Fallon was arrest in Virginia as a fugitive from justice on April 10, waived her extradition to New York State on April 16, and on April 27, Otsego County Investigators traveled to Virginia and brought Fallon back to New York State.

She was arraigned in Otsego County and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail returnable Monday, May 7 in Edmeston Court.

If convicted, Fallon faces up to four years in prison.
