Former Sheriff's candidate accused of possessing forged signatures

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - One of the candidates in the Fall 2010 Oneida County Sheriff's race could spend up to seven years behind bars.

Angela Gumbarevic was arraigned Monday on two charges - criminal possession of a forged instrument and offering a false instrument for filing.

The Oneida County District Attorney's Office says that Gumbarevic is accused of possessing forged signatures on her election papers and presenting them to the Board of Elections.

An individual filed a complaint in August, but the D.A.'s office says they waited until after the general election was over to file charges so that people wouldn't accuse of the office of trying to sway voters.

Gumbarevic is scheduled to appear in Oneida County Court on March 21.
