SCHUYLER, N.Y. (WKTV) - There's another candidate in the race for the newly-formed 118th district. Former Herkimer County Legislator Joseph Chilelli kicked off his campaign with family and friends at DePalma's Restaurant in Schuyler Wednesday night.

Chilelli will challenge incumbent Assemblyman Marc Butler (117th District) this fall. Because the lines in the districts were redrawn, the 117th becomes the 118th district. Chilelli says he can't compete when it comes to experience- Butler has been in office for 17 years- but he wants to make it clear, he would go to bat for all of his constituents if elected. "I will look at every issue. I will look at the interests of the region and the people of the district. That is why I'm running. I'm not running to be a politician, I'm running to be a representative of the people. Hopefully I will hear from the public what they want me to represent them on, which issues concern them and we'll go from there."

Assemblyman Marc Butler says "I'm confident that with the record that I have achieved as local Assemblyman, the voters will look at that and understand that i've worked very hard on their behalf. i look forward to a vigorous campaign and we'll get the issues out on the table and see where it leads."

Election Day is November 6th.
