Former food service supervisor for Department of Corrections pleads guilty

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A former food service supervisor for the state Department of Corrections will be spending some time behind bars for stealing $100,000 from the department.

Howard Dean admitted the crime, pleading guilty to grand larceny Thursday morning in Oneida County Court. He could have faced up to 15 years in prison if convicted, but as a result of his plea, will be sentenced to five years probation with the first six months to be spent at the Oneida County Jail.

Prosecutors say Dean stole the money in part by putting in vouchers that said he worked Fridays. However, he hadn't worked a Friday for more than 10 years. They say there were also inappropriate stipends paid to Dean throughout the years.

Howard Dean will be sentenced in June.
