GERMAN FLATTS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Around 100 community members gathered for prayer at the historic Fort Herkimer Church Thanksgiving morning.

The Thanksgiving Day service has become a tradition dating back 240 years. It brought together local people from all different religious backgrounds.

"It's a form of togetherness," said Usher Harry Reeder. "It makes us all realize we follow our own religion, we really are one faith, one brotherhood, one sisterhood whatever you want to call it."

The Fort Herkimer Church was built in the 1700's during the French and Indian war, it was also used during the Revolutionary War. It is the oldest building in Herkimer County.
