Founder of Brook's BBQ Restaurant passes away


ONEONTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The founder of the famed Brooks House of BBQ, Griffin Brooks, has died at the age of 94, according to an obituary in the Oneonta Daily Star.

Brooks, who resided in Stamford in Otsego County, died on Saturday.

Griffin Brooks graduated from the Agricultural and Technical College at Delhi in 1940 with a degree in animal husbandry. In 1941, Griffin married his wife Frances.

The couple purchased a farm in the 1950s and that turned into holding barbecues. In 1958, the Brooks family began operation of a concession stand and the first Brooks' House of Bar-B-Q Restaurant opened on June 10, 1961.

The Oneonta Daily Star says the business is now a three-generation family business.

The restaurant, also known for their catering services, is located on Route 7 in Oneonta and is well-known place to eat.
