Frankfort-Schuyler students play hoops for heart health

By JOLEEN FERRIS

FRANKFORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - Students at Reese Road Elementary School in Frankfort have spent the past month taking part in basketball-related activities in order to raise money for heart research.

"I have the K-2 students and I think my vantage point was that they were engaged and when you can get kids that age engaged in something, you're doing a good job," said Physical Education Teacher Theresa Carinci.

The students on Thursday had the closing ceremonies for the month-long fundraising 'games'.  Teachers say the significant dollar figure raised highlights the students' commitment to fundraising, while their smiles highlight the fact that they also had a great time doing it.

"Oh it's special, to see the excitement with all these kids and the energy and them celebrating such a nice event, it's special. It's nice to see smiles on the kids' faces," said Physical Education Teacher Michael Giambrone.

The students raised nearly $10,000 for the American Heart Association.
