Black ice causes six-car accident on Route 49
FLOYD, N.Y. (WKTV)
- Crews responded to several accidents along State Route 49 during the morning commute Monday, including one involving six cars in Floyd.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. when a driver lost control of their car on black ice, causing a chain reaction.
Three cars subsequently crashed and two others went off the road.
One driver was transported to St. Luke's for a spinal injury and another was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital's emergency room.
Route 49 westbound was down to one lane near Oriskany.
Eastbound 49 between Rome and Oriskany was shut down around 8 am to be closed with several vehicles off the roadway and also a ten-vehicle pileup.
DPW officials say freezing rain on bare roads is dangerous.
