(WKTV) - The funeral for the police officer shot and killed outside a medical center near Binghamton is scheduled for Friday.
Officer David Smith from the Johnson City Police Department was killed Monday when responding to a disturbance outside the medical center. Police say a medical center employee wrestled Smith's gun from him, then shot him several times.
The suspect, James Clark, was shot and killed by police.
Utica Police Department Lt. Steve Hauck will attend Friday's funeral with other officers from outside agencies to pay respect and honor the life of their fellow brother in blue.
"This is an officer that had 18 1/2 years," said Hauck. "Really, the twilight of the career."
"His life ended needlessly and senselessly."
Hauck added the Utica Police Department received an overwhelming amount of support when Officer Thomas Lindsay was killed in 2007, so they want to extend the same respect.
