Gator demonstrations taking place this weekend at the Outdoor Sports Show

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some stars from Animal Planet are hoping to draw a crowd to the 22nd Big East Camping and Outdoor Show this weekend at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

Jimmy Riffle, Andy Riffle and Tre Huntoon of "Gator Boys" are in town. Their company "Scales, Tails and Teeth" travel the country doing hands-on demonstrations with alligators and other native reptiles in the United States. This is their first time in New York State. "We've done a lot of traveling. As far North as we've gone is Pennsylvania," said Jimmy Riffle. "So we're pretty excited to be in New York. Not the snow so much, but being this far north."

They will be doing three live demonstrations each day this weekend. Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. On Sunday the shows are at 11 a.m., 1p.m., and 3p.m.

"It's a hands-on capture technique," said Jimmy Riffle. "Showing traditional alligator wrestling techniques, hopefully not getting bit."

After each show, with the exception of the last show on Sunday, the guys will be posing for pictures and signing autographs. You will also get the chance to touch one of the smaller gators. "If you've never had the chance to touch a baby alligator, after each show we are going to be offering that," said Riffle. "You can get up close and personal and touch a baby alligator." Riffle says the gators mouth will be taped shut so no accidents happen.

There's much more to see at the Outdoor Show. There's a variety of hunting goods and outdoor equipment lining the halls in and around the event center. There are also other demonstrations. "We've been coming here every year for probably the last 8 or 9 years," said Tom McDonald of Worthington Kennels. "We put on dog demonstrations, demonstrating dog obedience and also retrieving. Obedience is your foundation. Once you have that then you can move on, but you have to have that obedience."
