By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - This weekend is Gay Pride Weekend in Utica, and a pride flag is now flying over City Hall to let everyone know.

This is the first Pride Weekend since same-sex marriage became legal in New York State. Milford Decker, a representative with the organization Pride Along the Mohawk said that in addition to equality, the flag also speaks volumes about difference.

On Saturday afternoon, there will be an event from 2-4 p.m. at Steuben Park for people in the community to speak out in favor of equal rights.

"Looking back at what has been accomplished, and looking forward to what is still to be accomplished," Decker said.

The celebration will continue on Sunday at 412 Rutger Park with an end of the summer picnic.
