(WKTV) - About 300 people showed up to Hart's Hill on Tuesday to say thank you to 11 local health care professionals.
Three others were inducted into the Healthcare Hall of Distinction.
The Genesis Group has organized a special appreciation breakfast for the past nine years.
"Healthcare is big business in this region," said Ray Durso of Genesis Group. "A billion dollar business that employs thousands of people. Why not celebrate the good people who offer the service they do throughout the region?"
This week is also National Nurses Recognition Week.
Among those honored as outstanding health care professionals include:
Physician: Dr. Michael Kelberman, CNY Cardiology
Nurse: Mary Ellen Schrader, St. Elizabeth Medical Center (MVHS)
Healthcare leadership: Scott Perra, Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare (MVHS)
Direct care professional: Trish DeFreitas, certified nursing assistant for Masonic Care Community.
Volunteer: Marolyn Wilson
Dentist: Dr. Charles Burns
Nurse practitioner: Dr. George Markwardt, Slocum Dickson Medical Group
Behavior healthcare professional: Stuart Joseph with Center for Family Life and Recovery
