(WKTV) - The Second Annual Alex Kogut Memorial Golf Tournament was supposed to kick off at noon Monday at the Cedar Lake Golf Club in Clayville, but because of rain, it didn't get going until 1 p.m.
Kogut was killed by her boyfriend, Clayton Whittemore, in her SUNY Brockport dorm in September 2012. She was on the swim team there, as she was at New Hartford High School, where she graduated three months before her death.
Kogut's former swim coach at New Hartford organized the event.
"We started as a very small group, and a year ago we met and the idea was to show some love to the Kogut family -- and oh, by the way, raise a few dollars," said Tom Wells, New Hartford High School swim coach. "Both last year and this year, the response from the New Hartford community has been incredible, so there we are."
Whittemore, also from New Hartford, is scheduled to be sentenced next week in Monroe County Court. He is expected to get 25 years to life in prison.
