Governor visits SUNYIT to push Tax-Free NY Initiative

By NEWSChannel 2 Staff

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Governor Andrew Cuomo was at SUNYIT in Marcy on Thursday, drumming up support for his Tax-Free New York initiative.

The governor is trying to reverse the New York's 'tax capital of the nation' status by getting rid of some of the burdensome taxes that earned it. Under the plan, businesses operate completely tax-free for ten years, which would mean no property or business tax, as well as no income tax for employees.

Those who would be eligible for the initiative are companies that locate on SUNY campuses outside of New York City and on some other designated state-owned land, companies with a relationship to the university, new businesses, out of state businesses that relocate and existing businesses that expand.
