Green Line to honor St. Patrick painted in downtown Utica
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - On Saturday morning, the City of Utica will honor St. Patrick with an annual parade through downtown, but on Friday, officials were putting the finishing touches on the parade route.
The green line was painted on Genesee Street in front of the Stanley Theatre Friday morning.
Utica Fire Chief and 2013 Grand Marshal Russell Brooks did the honors of painting the green line, which is the last prep for the 36th year of the parade.
The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. at Oneida Square on Saturday.
"I would advise you as a spectator to get down here 45 minutes to an hour early," said Judy Weeks, Parade Director. "We expect to have a very large crowd. We have about 114 floats that will be coming down. We have pipe bands, big rigs, we have fire departments and it's going to take us to Lafayette Street this year."
You are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the West Side Soup Kitchen, whose volunteers will be going up and down the parade route collecting the items.
