Griffo wants aid for flood-affected Port Leyden residents

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - State Sen. Joe Griffo is calling for aid for the Village of Port Leyden after major storm damage last week.

Griffo visited Port Leyden over the holiday weekend. A private company is working with the village to help fix sewer pipes, remove rubble and repair the road that buckled in Thursday's storm.

Many residents didn't have flood insurance.

"It was an isolated incident in that area of Lewis County," Griffo said. "So the first step was to make sure everyone was safe and assess the damage. People were without water. I contacted the state Department of Emergency Management and they're sending a team today."

Griffo says a major concern is the immediate response to the flooding situation by the county.
