Group hosting comedy show to benefit Alex Kogut Scholarship Fund

By WKTV News

YORKVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local group is hosting a comedy show Thursday night to benefit the Alex Kogut Scholarship Fund.

Authorities said the New Hartford High School graduate was murdered by her boyfriend in her SUNY Brockport dorm room a month ago.

Thursday's show, hosted by Comedy Central New York, will feature various comedians from all across the region and $5 from each ticket will be donated to the scholarship fund.

"It's one of those terrible tragedies we wanted to do something for," said Benefit Co-Organizer Mike Bova. "Laughter is great medicine. People say it's the best medicine and what is cool about it is, we want to help ease the pain a little bit. There is nothing like losing a child so we wanted to ease the pain a little bit."

The show is happening Thursday night at Club Monarch in Yorkville and begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $15 at the door.
