Panel on Bath Salts open to public

By HILARY LANE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Center for Family Life and Recovery is hosting a panel presentation Tuesday evening to provide the community with information on how local officials are tackling the issue of synthetic drugs.

The panelists come from all different areas of expertise including a toxicologist, a nurse working at a local hospital, the Utica Police Chief, the Oneida County Sheriff, and other representatives from across the county.

Each person on the panel will offer their perspective to explain why synthetic drugs have become a prevalent issue in the area and what is being done from all different avenues to prevent the issue from escalating.

"Because it's really great in Oneida County, we are not trying to sweep this problem under the rug," said Samantha McCarthy, Prevention Council Coordinator. "We aren't saying it doesn't exist. People are working on it and we want you to know we are working on it."

The panel discussion will be held in the Mohawk Room at the Radisson Hotel in Utica at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The event is free and open to the public.
