HCCC president search sparks concern

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Faculty and staff at the Herkimer County Community College expressed discontent after they say their voices weren't heard, during a special meeting Tuesday night.

The college's board of trustees hosted a meeting to discuss the search process for their next college president. The college's current president Ann Marie Murray announced her retirement a few weeks ago.

Officials say the public isn't allowed to speak at special meetings. The board could have waived that rule, but didn't.

"I'd like to see an outside company hired," said Steven Mezik, President of the Professional Association. "I don't feel confident in the administration in finding someone internally or locally. We need to do a nationwide search. We need to get the best candidate for the college and that's the most important thing."
