(WKTV) - For those who have ever wanted to take a course from Hamilton College or Colgate University, now you can on your own time without enrolling in the school or leaving the comfort of your home.
The two schools have announced a partnership as new contributing members in the nonprofit online-learning platform edX. Founded by Harvard University and MIT, edX offers more than 150 courses in many areas of study.
Colgate and Hamilton are joining edX along with several major foundations and global organizations, including Osaka University, International Monetary Fund, the Linux foundation and the Smithsonian Institution.
With charter edX members Davidson and Wellesley Colleges, Colgate and Hamilton bring to four the number of liberal arts college edX members. As partners, Colgate and Hamilton will offer four online courses within the first year of their engagement with edX.
The site offers a variety of courses from many institutions. Users select a course they are interested in and can take the course at their own pace at a time they select. Those who simply want to audit a course can do so for free. Another option is to receive a certificate of achievement upon completion for a fee.
