Help needed at area pet pantry

HOLLAND PATENT, N.Y. (WKTV) - This time of year, people often think of helping area children, but not always about area pets. Sarah's Pet Pantry, located at the First Presbyterian Church, needs help this season.

Volunteers are actually going into their own pockets to make sure those in need who have pets get the help they need.

They say pets are a source of comfort for people and they want to do everything they can to make sure people in need don't have to turn their pets in to a shelter because they can't afford to care for them.

One of those volunteers, Lynne Swartz, said, "With the economy as bad as it is, more people are coming to the Food Bank and I think every one of them has a pet of some kind. So we're able to give them enough pet food to last two weeks of the month and that way they don't have to turn their pets in to the local shelters."

Donations to Sarah's Pet Pantry are appreciated. Their number is (315) 896-6372.
