HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - While students of the Herkimer BOCES were able to soak in an exciting day examining an airplane on their campus, Thursday, some eighth graders were also at the school thinking about their future.
The middle school-aged students toured the school in order to see if they would potentially be interested in any of the fields offered by the school.
The Tech Center Principal said that there's a shortage of vocational workers, and they want their students to be ready for the real world when it comes time for them to enter the work force.
"A lot of younger students are disconnected and they're not sure what they want to do," said Principal Kathy Fox. "so our hope is that they can start to connect to things they're interested in and get into a career they enjoy,"
Herkimer BOCES hopes that this plan will help to fix the shortage of vocational work applicants, and keep graduates in the area once they are ready to start a career.
